Mark Christofi is not your average decorator. The quality and individuality of his work set him apart. Unlike many decorators who "push" a certain style, Christofi stays open. His ideas are generated from a close working relationship with his clients; and by the architecture of their homes. "I try to develop a level of intimacy with the people I work with. I want to learn how they live, and what their likes and dislikes are." This knowledge provides him with inspiration.
Nature is another source of inspiration. He is very conscious of bringing, "the outside in." "Colors and textures found in nature, and apparent in architecture and construction sites, frequently become launch pads for my approach to interior space, and the elements within that space," he explains. Christofi takes special pride in a living room he designed, in which the area became, "a virtual garden of floral patterns, strawgrass surfaces and sculpted wooden furniture that absorb or reflect light and cultivate a sense of nature as art."
Color plays an important part in his decorating schemes. "I'm very interest in how to use color most effectively," he says. Keeping up with new trends is also essential." I try to keep myself very current, and see what other people are doing," says Christofi. He frequently travels from coast to coast picking up new ideas.
He's not just interested in new trends though, Christofi has a healthy respect for the past. "I draw from historical architecture—from the Federal Greek Revival period, for example. "He also uses elements from the 50s, and 60s. Quality furniture from the 50s is a favorite.  read more >
